He Texas Attorney General, Republican Ken Paxton, was threatened this Thursday with processing of any doctor or hospital participates in performing an emergency abortion on a pregnant woman 20 weeks during which the court allowed her to have an abortion for medical reasons.

Just hours after a judge ruled that Kate Cox’s case fell within the exceptions allowed by Texas’ strict anti-abortion laws, Paxton said in a letter that The ruling did not protect doctors from prosecution.

The Texas Attorney General’s Office opposed 31-year-old Cox’s request to terminate her pregnancy. The woman had to go to court, arguing that although she and her husband desperately wanted to have a baby, doctors warned her that it was not viable and posed a threat to her health and fertility.

At a special hearing this Thursday morning, Travis County Judge Maya Guerra Gamble opined that Cox’s case falls within the scope of the exceptions permitted by law.

The magistrate’s ruling will presumably protect the abortion doctor. and any other party involved in the procedure.

However, Paxton said the judge’s ruling “does not relieve hospitals, doctors or anyone else from civil and criminal liability for violating Texas abortion laws.”

The prosecutor sent a letter to three Houston hospitals, where Cox’s doctor, Damla Karsan, could have performed the abortion.

Paxton says it’s important to understand the “long-term consequences” for the facility and doctors if they allow the procedure. (EFE)
