American Aeronautics and Space Agency NASA gave good news to the Hubble Space Telescope. The space telescope will soon return to imaging deep space after a series of malfunctions with one of the gyroscopes, according to the agency.

It all started on November 19, 2023, when one of the three gyroscopes of the famous orbital observatory started giving false indications. Incorrect gyroscope readings can radically affect scientific measurements. To get an assisted image of a specific location in deep space, you need to make sure that the telescope is actually pointed at the right point in the universe.

As a result, the telescope automatically went into safe mode. The team managed to contact him again the next day. But things didn’t go so well shortly after problems with the gyroscope forced Hubble back into safe mode on November 21. Later the attempt was repeated and again failed; Hubble went into safe mode again on November 23.

The last pass caused concern among the team of scientists because it took longer than the previous two passes. However, this is not too dangerous since the observatory can actually operate with a single gyroscope. The team uses three at a time because it increases efficiency.

Now the NASA team has confirmed that another attempt will be made to restart scientific operations on the telescope and three gyroscopes. NASA’s statement is as follows:

Based on the characteristics observed during the tests, the team decided to use gyroscopes with higher precision during scientific observations. The Hubble instruments and the observatory itself are intact and in good condition.
