SpaceX launched another group of Starlink internet satellites into orbit. A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 22 Starlink spacecraft took off from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base at 03:03 (08:03 GMT; 12:03 California local time) on Friday, December 8.
The first stage of the Falcon 9 returned to Earth for a vertical landing approximately 8.5 minutes after launch. He touched down on the “Of Course I Still Love You” drone sitting in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California.
According to SpaceX’s mission statement, this was the 13th launch and landing of that launch vehicle. Six of the previous 12 flights were Starlink missions.
Meanwhile, 22 Starlink satellites are set to deploy to low Earth orbit approximately 62.5 minutes after launch from the Falcon 9 upper stage. Friday morning’s launch marked SpaceX’s 91st orbital mission of 2023, extending the company’s one-year record. The previous target of 61 launches was set by 2022.
