When we talk about iTunes, it inevitably makes me feel quite nostalgic. I’ve said on previous occasions that I was a heavy iPod user at the time. I used different types of MP3 players before, from USB flash drives with limited capacity that forced you to listen to music in very low quality for various reasons, to CD players that were compatible with this format and gave a lot more games in terms of capacity (of course if you carried compact discs) and sound quality.

I was lucky to be able to try it First generation iPod models (which was only compatible with MacOS frontal. This generation could connect via USB and via FireWire, which was much less common on a PC. However, I had an IEEE 1394 controller on my computer at the time, so I could enjoy its tremendous speed.

Almost two decades have passed and I still remember that player (well, you, because I had more) fondly, but from the first moment it was clear to me that the unique experience that the iPod provided extended not only to the device, but also to its ecosystem and more specifically on iTunes, Apple’s software (for MacOS one of Apple’s best and most lucrative ideas, the iTunes Music Store. Over time, iTunes was no longer required on macOS, although it is still available for Windows.

iTunes will soon disappear from Apple TV

For many years, the iTunes Store (a name that Music dropped after it started adding other types of content) was Apple’s great digital store, but that started to change with the arrival of Apple Music and Apple TV. And now, as we can read in Tom’s guide, we’re nearing the end of this platform, and that’s it The iTunes Store will no longer be present on Apple TV with the arrival of tvOS 17.2. At this point, there is no indication that this will happen on other operating systems in this iteration, such as iOS 17.2.

It is true that the Apple TV app has been on devices of the same name for some time already offers access to purchases and rentals available in the iTunes Store, in addition to adding other interesting features such as the aggregation of content from other platforms. In other words, it’s something we can expect to happen sooner or later, and it probably won’t be long before it spreads to the rest of Apple’s ecosystem.
