Authorities Hong Kong orders the slaughter of more than 900 pigs following the discovery of the presence of deadly African swine fever (ASF) in animals on an authorized farm.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation (AFCD) said that 19 of the 30 pigs tested were infected with swine fever and that transport of animals from the farm was immediately suspended.
This is stated in the AFCD message.
AFCD staff have arranged to inspect the remaining eight pig farms located within a three-kilometer radius of the reference farm and will collect samples for testing for African swine fever.
He later added.
Well-cooked pork is safe to eat. Citizens should not worry.
Although ASF is usually fatal to pigs and there is no vaccine, it does not affect humans, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
