Apple computer check signed by Steve Jobs is sold for 46 thousand dollars

A check signed by former Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs sold at auction this week for $46,063. In 1976, a $4.01 check printed by Apple Computer Company was sent to electronics retailer RadioShack.

Jobs filled out the check on July 23, 1976, while he and Steve Wozniak were working on the Apple-1 computer. The duo produced approximately 200 Apple-1 machines, 50 of which were sold to The Byte Shop in July 1976 for $666.66.

The RadioShack listing includes the answering machine’s Palo Alto address and the mail delivery point Jobs used when Apple moved from his parents’ garage. RR Auction expected the check to sell for at least $25,000, but it sold for more. Apple and Steve Jobs memorabilia have become increasingly expensive in recent years.

Another check signed by Steve Jobs was auctioned by Sothebys this week and could sell for over $40,000. Because the check was written on March 28, 1976, it pre-dates Apple’s founding date on April 1, 1976. This is one of several checks given to Jobs and Wozniak before they received a specially printed Apple Computer Company checkbook.
