More than a million Americans and some Canadians in the northeastern states are at serious risk, according to calculations by French scientists. A megatsunami triggered by a 72-kilometer fault could hit these regions.

British tabloid newspaper daily mail Scientists from the University of Grenoble-Alpes in France describe the results of the study. They calculated that the XEOLXELEK-Elk Lake Fault is 72.4 km long, running through British Columbia in Canada.

If an earthquake along this newly discovered fault line shook the seafloor in the Haro Strait, it could displace enough water to trigger a tsunami in the surrounding Georgia Basin.

It is feared that this fault will trigger a severe earthquake and then a tsunami in the Georgian basin. Therefore, the threat of destruction and drift will become relevant for cities in the northeastern United States: Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham and Olympia, as well as the elements will affect Victoria, Vancouver and Whistler in Canada.

Researchers put forward the version that the crack was the result of an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 to 7.6 approximately 4700 to 2300 years ago. According to scientists, the malfunction may extend to the territory of the United States. The northeastern United States, with a population of over one million, is at risk. Source
