Why is the “National Roaming” service not working?
In a statement to Gromadskyi, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine explained that the malfunction in the Kyivstar network did not allow the transmission of information about its subscribers to other operators, which made national roaming services ineffective.
The Ministry assured users that the problem is temporary and Kyivstar experts are actively working to restore communication as soon as possible. It was also emphasized that after the consequences of the malfunction are eliminated and the network is restored to normal operation, the Digital Ministry will discuss with all mobile operators how similar situations can be prevented in the future and how to protect users from unexpected communication problems.
What to do when the connection does not work
As network outages continue, the State Emergency Service advises Kyivstar subscribers to seek alternative communication methods. Among these, the State Emergency Service recommends the use of:
- Landline phones as the main alternative;
- Popular applications for exchanging messages: Viber, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Facebook Messenger and Instagram, provided there is access to the Internet, especially via Wi-Fi;
- Mobile applications for communication on the example of walkie-talkies: Voxer Walkie Talkie, Walkie Talkie, Two Way: Walkie Talkie.
The State Emergency Service emphasizes that in case of lack of communication and access to the Internet, citizens should first of all pay attention to personal safety and go to the nearest facility equipped with landline telephone and/or radio communications. These may be local government buildings or police stations that will provide communication during service interruptions.
