Google has published the trends for 2023, i.e. what users are most searching for in their search engine this year. The Internet giant compiled the main topics in several categories, both globally and in detail by country.
In just three weeks, we’ll be closing out the year, and major tech companies are publishing what’s most viewed, bought, used, or searched for on their platforms. Google data is a relevant case as a summary of the year. And although there are some good alternatives in search engines, Google Search continues to dominate the sector with a market share of around 90%.
The terrible events in the Middle East following the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel and its response in Gaza, runs the international news section. Unfortunately, this was to be expected, just as a search for “Ukraine” appeared in the lists for 2022. Earthquakes in Turkey or hurricanes that accompany us year after year round out the top 5.
More friendly is the list of games with Hogwarts Legacy; The last of us; Connection; Battlegrounds Mobile India and Starfield. Strangely, none of them are – not even close to – the best year. In movies, the most commercial ones stand out, Barbie; Oppenheimer; jawan Sound of Freedom and John Wick: Chapter 4. There are more lists of actors, musicians, athletes, TV shows… you can view.
In Spain, OpenAI conversational chatbot It climbed to the top search position in the general news section, making us a top 10 general election; the (unfortunate) case of Rubiales in the Football Federation; also “Israel”, repeated in many countries; the death of MarÃa Teresa Campos; Shakira not for her music, but for not paying taxes or for her friend Mbappé, whom Real Madrid fans hate and love in equal measure:
Google has also published search sections that start with questions How, why or what is it? and there’s a bit of everything, especially hot political topics like ‘Amnesty’, ‘Lawfare’, ‘Elections’, ‘Hamas’ or the reason Twitter changed its name to X.
These lists, which are a good summary of the year given the number of Google users, have a little bit of everything. You can find the lists at the following links:
Google also released a compilation video of the most searched for over the past 25 years.
