U.S. officials and security industry representatives say the Chinese military has increased its ability to disable key U.S. infrastructure.

According to Ukrinform, the Washington Post writes about this issue.

“China’s military is increasing its ability to disable key U.S. infrastructure, including energy and water supplies, as well as communications and transportation systems,” U.S. and security officials said.

According to experts, last year hackers affiliated with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army infiltrated the computer systems of about 20 critical facilities. They said it was part of a broader effort to find ways to create panic or disrupt logistics in the event of a possible US-China conflict in the Pacific.

Many non-U.S. organizations, including energy companies, were also attacked, according to people who spoke on condition of anonymity.

U.S. officials said none of the interventions affected or caused malfunctions of industrial control systems that control pumps, pistons or other critical functions.

U.S. officials first revealed the Volt Typhoon cyber campaign about a year ago, as the United States and China were trying to stabilize relations.

As Ukrinform reported, US President Joe Biden emphasized the need to avoid conflict between the two states during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in November.
