Once again, as soon as we open the box, we have the same feeling that we are used to Catit PIXI, a careful design that maintains a faithful and harmonious aesthetic between all its components. Again a cat design with elements we already know like whiskers and ears but with some changes. In this case, the camera is integrated into the nose, the automatic dispensing button has been moved to the side, and the beard now has LED lights.

As we have already mentioned, the main innovation compared to its predecessor is the incorporation of a camera with HD or SD quality (depending on how you configure it), which allows us to see our pet live, or take recordings to see them later (for this we will need a card microSD, which is not included in the delivery). This recording can be activated either by motion detection when the cat approaches the feeder; a timer that you set to start at a certain time; or you can simply let the camera record continuously, so you don’t miss any movement of the kitten.

We already know that the night is a time of great activity for felines, whether it bothers us (and wakes us up) and how can it be otherwise, the camera has automatic night vision, which is activated when it detects that there is not enough light. The quality is quite decent and it fulfills its purpose: to see the nocturnal madness of our pets.

For the motion detection we mentioned, the camera has up to two zones. These have two main functions: activate recording if you’ve configured it that way, or send you a notification through the app to let you know there’s been movement. In my case, for example, I marked the board itself as the detection zone and configured it to send me notifications. This way, the app will not only notify me when food is dispensed (as it already did with the Smart Feeder), but also send me another notification when my cat has gone to eat.

cat talks

Another novelty that attracts a lot of attention is the microphone and speaker, which work well. You will be able to record and listen to your cat, but also talk to it. This is very useful when, for example, you are away from home and want to keep an eye on him, but he is lost in any corner of the house when he takes a nap during the day. You can call him using the microphone and wait for him to listen to you. Or you can also give out food and know for sure that it will arrive.

One option of the microphone that seems very original to me is the personalization of the food delivery message. You can record yourself (with the feeder’s microphone, important) and leave a message when it’s time to ration your food. Just “Let’s eat Arya” as could be my case. Or something more fun that your cat could embarrass you for. Remember to disable it when you have a visitor and that’s it, no one has to find out.

We continue with the news of the Vision Catit PIXI Smart Feeder. To accompany the night vision and add even more fantasy to this feeder, the beard has become customizable LED lights that give it a different touch in addition to lighting. Of course, they can be disabled if you want. Of course, we recommend not putting them in red, because another of their functions is to alert you if there is little food left, and indeed, the alert will be red. It’s not a big deal because the app also alerts you when food is low, but just in case.

The auto-dispense button, which makes room for the nose-integrated camera, is now located on the side of the base next to the food tray. Of course, as with its predecessor, you can disable this button if your cat has learned to help itself.

Its advantages with regard to feeding cats remain the same as the previous feeder: it helps with possible anxiety problems with food and allows the daily feeding to be divided into as many as possible (up to 12 portions per day, each up to approx. 5 grams, depending on the size of the croquette) .

The PIXI app, an old acquaintance

We continue to integrate the entire Catit PIXI family into the same app, allowing us to centralize all of our pet’s home automation in one place. We recall the options that the application offers us, which are basically the same as the previous feeder, plus the new functions that we mentioned earlier: food delivery, meal planning, portion size customization, jam or filling alerts, feeding summary, alert sound (and in this case recording), sharing the application, changing the color of the whiskers and of course all the multimedia actions we mentioned, such as viewing, recording and interacting with your cat using the microphone.

As for the feeding system, we continue to face the same restrictions of 12 daily portions and a uniform menu. As we mentioned in the previous analysis, we may miss that there is more than one feeding schedule, in case, for example, you want to feed dry food one morning (at the same time as always), but you want to adjust or cancel the feeding. automatic feeding in the afternoon, to give wet food and make a mixed plan. This is strictly a software issue that may be improved in future updates.

As a novelty, Catit has created an augmented reality tool with which you can:

  • See a 3D model of the camera if you are viewing it from a computer.
  • See what the camera would look like in your home with augmented reality.

You can see it here.

Conclusions

The Vision Catit PIXI smart feeder is definitely our best friend for feeding our kittens. The features that its predecessor offered us, along with new camera functions and other multimedia options, make it one of those products that you thought you didn’t need, but once you try it, you can’t live without it. . We still miss some software improvements in the app, but we still love it.

The Catit PIXI Smart Feeder can be purchased right now from the Catit website for €193.99 and from retail channels such as Amazon.
