Apple releases iOS 17.2 with the long-awaited Diario app

This is the first time we have officially heard about the Diario app (previously leaked) was during the iOS 17 announcement, which, as you may recall, took place at Apple’s WWDC 2023 keynote event last June. However, when iOS 17 was launched in mid-September, we were able to verify that the expected app was not in it and that Apple would therefore release it in one of the operating system updates.

So it was possible that it would do this with iOS 17.1, but as we saw at the time, that was not the case. We can attribute this to the problems they had to face in Cupertino, which mainly concerned the Pro models of the iPhone 15 family, especially overheating, as well as malfunctions that could disable the chip responsible for RFID, which, among other complications, prevented the use of Apple Pay with a smartphone. I understand that Apple has decided to prioritize resources to fix both issues, thankfully now resolved, and If so, that would seem like the most reasonable option..

So, with these issues resolved, the first iOS 17.2 beta They already told us that the Diario app will arrive hand in hand with this update, and therefore it was a matter of weeks to start using it. As I already stated with the announcement of this major revision of iOS, we are not expecting a big qualitative leap, but rather a “smaller” but interesting update, in which Diary is without a doubt one of the most notable elements.

Apple releases iOS 17.2 with the long-awaited Diario app

Well, the wait is finally over. Apple has already released iOS 17.2 for all compatible devices and this way we can now use Diario. The app is automatically installed on the iPhone when the system is updated and is also available in the App Store, although it can only be installed on devices updated to 17.2. However, this is useful in case we decide to uninstall it at some point and want to restore it later.

As we told you back then, Diary allows you to keep a personal diary in which You can combine your own notes with content and information related to other app usage and smartphone metrics. In my case, for example, after the first opening, it suggested adding a couple of exits from the house for a walk. In addition, suggestions for topics to write about are also shown, all with a clear focus on optimism and gratitude. Obviously, it’s the user who decides what elements they want to add to their log, and for obvious privacy reasons, Apple states that everything related to the Journal happens locally, that none of it is processed or analyzed on Apple servers.

Personally, as I mentioned at the time, I think it’s striking and if application developers start using the API which allows Diario to “connect” with its applications (one-way, of course, the API does not allow third-party applications to obtain information from Diario), Diario can become an interesting social and emotional diary of our lives, a concept that I find interesting, to say the least. I just hope we don’t have to talk about security bugs.
