Along with the processors, Qualcomm has unveiled a new version of its reference augmented reality glasses based on the Snapdragon XR2 mobile platform. Compared to the previous generation, they have lost the leading connection and become noticeably more compact.
The pre-release Snapdragon XR1 glasses only worked when wired to a smartphone. The new iteration is completely wireless and much more compact. The weight of the device is 115 g. True, the built-in 650 mAh battery lasts only 30 minutes in demanding applications. However, in tasks with fewer graphics, the result will be better. In addition, you can connect an external battery, and third-party manufacturers can change the design by installing more capacious power supplies.
The glasses use a pair of 0.49-inch screens from SeeYa Technology, made using micro-OLED technology. They have a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz each. The field of view angle has been reduced from 45 to 40 degrees. The delay between data transfer from a smartphone or computer is only 3ms. The gadget is able to track the position of the head and the movement of the hands of the user interacting with virtual objects.
The device is already available to some partners so that they can develop their own solutions based on it. However, no timeline for the appearance of such glasses on sale is reported.
