Figma launches its first hardware under the name Figma Creator Micro. This colorful mechanical keyboard simplifies designers’ work with quick access to Figma tools and shortcuts.
Figma launches its first hardware, the Figma Creator Micro. This is a mechanical keyboard, also called Macropad, that is intended to make designers’ work easier. What sets the Creator Micro apart from other macro pads is its ready-to-use configuration using Figma’s design software.
Collaboration with Work Louder
The realization of the Creator Micro is not just Figma’s achievement. The company worked with Work Louder, a technology company specializing in macro pads. The big difference from other traditional macro pads is that it is already configured with Figma software, saving users a lot of work.
Rob Bye, product manager at Figma, emphasizes that the company has worked hard to make this configuration possible. In this way, the company differentiates itself from the other macropads and the thing becomes more than an existing device in Figma guise.
Functionalities and design
The Creator Micro is equipped with twelve buttons, each supporting up to four different functions depending on the level you have set the peripheral to. This gives you access to 48 different shortcuts. However, this isn’t enough to cover all of Figma’s 150 keyboard shortcuts, but it does provide enough space to add the most commonly used features.
In addition to these important functionalities, Figma also placed a lot of emphasis on design. With the Creator Micro you get three sets Keycaps which can be attached to the mechanical switches. These three sets include a black set, another with colors, and a third with Figma software icons. Because the buttons are so customizable, it’s a challenge (especially at first) to remember exactly what they do. The color and symbol sets can help.
The idea of releasing a macro pad has been around at Figma for some time. The Creator Micro is available to pre-order now for $139, with delivery expected in the first half of next year. We don’t yet know a price in euros.
With the Creator Micro, Figma is once again making headlines. After all, coverage of the company these days is dominated by Adobe’s takeover attempt, which the EU certainly has no interest in.
