He Apple Watch Series 9 Its external appearance is completely identical to Watch series 8 which we analyzed last year, Watch Season 7 2021 and even Watch series 6 which was introduced three years ago.

However, this continuity in design, very successful for quite a few editions of the Apple smartwatch, does not mean that it does not represent some very interesting news for a model that many consider to be transitional before next year comes. Watch series 10which is already speculated to incorporate changes in format (it could perfectly follow the Apple Watch Ultra, although probably thinner) and new features in terms of battery life or more control over mental or physical health.

Series 9 watch, without design innovations

As Apple has accustomed us with its various watches, the Series 9 watch is sold in different configurations that differ in the final price, so it is advisable to go to the Apple purchase page to be clear about what we can opt for.

To get started, you can filter by aluminum box (GPS or GPS + Cellular model) or stainless steel (this only in GPS + Cellular) about sizes 41 mm or from 45 mm. And it is also possible to choose between rubber, fabric or stainless steel straps. By the way, the aluminum model is carbon neutral combined with the new sports straps (you can find all information about Apple’s environmental commitment on the Carbon Neutral page).

In terms of colors, in this edition the aluminum model welcomes a color like pink (if I remember correctly, this shade was already available in the previous editions) which is accompanied by midnight, star white, silver and (PRODUCT ) RED, while the stainless steel Series 9 watches maintain graphite, silver and gold.

Your screen is still Retina OLED LTPO which goes from edge to edge and is always active (it’s a feature that can be deactivated if you want to extend battery life) with a resolution of 352 x 430 pixels for the 41mm model and 396 x 484 pixels for the 45mm model mm .

The main novelty of the Watch Series 9 screen compared to the previous version is that brightness at 2000 nits (compared to the Series 8’s 1000 nits) and that the screen brightness can be dimmed to one nit when we’re in dark rooms (like a movie theater, so as not to disturb the rest of the audience).

The reality is that the Series 8 was already perfectly visible in full sunlight, and it’s not easy to notice the difference in brightness unless you compare the two models, and it’s not easy either. The important thing is that the good performance of the Apple Watch is getting better if possible.

The new SiP S9 and the double-tap gesture

Without a doubt, we are facing the two most important new features of the Watch Series 9. Starting with the S9 chipthanks to it, you can enjoy the double-tap gesture (which I will talk about in more detail now) and Integrating Siri into your device.

New 4-core Neural Engine, capable of processing machine learning tasks up to twice as fast as the Watch Series 8, enables Siri processing on the device, which significantly improves the ability to dictate and issue commands when we are not connected to the Internet. For example, we can program timers with airplane mode activated on both the watch and the iPhone.

Processing on the device is private and secureso now we can use Siri to access data from the Health app and ask questions about health and fitness: how many hours we slept the night before, check the progress of activity rings or record data such as weight, menstrual cycle or medication.

The second big news is news double tap gesture. Thanks to the Neural Engine, it processes data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and optical heart rate sensor even faster using a new machine learning algorithm. This algorithm detects small movements and changes in blood circulation that only occur when the index finger and thumb are zoomed in twice (it actually works with the thumb and the rest of the fingers as well).

This double-tap gesture allows us to control the main button of the application, stop the timer, play and pause music or snooze the alarm. It also works to answer or hang up a phone call, switch to a new elevation view in the Compass app, or even take a photo using the watch’s camera controls. In addition, we can open Smart Groups on the sphere and browse widgets by making the gesture a second time.

Look for precision on the Watch Series 9

I’ll admit that previous versions of the Apple Watch got me out of trouble with not finding my iPhone on more than one occasion. This is made even better, because thanks to SiP S9, which includes an ultra-wideband chip (ZCU) the second generation, all those who have an iPhone 15 (only for this generation, which also has the same chip), the exact search shows the distance and location of the “lost” iPhone, as well as providing visuals, haptics and sounds to help them find it.

Additionally, this UWB chip improves the integration of the Watch Series 9 with the speaker HomePod from Apple. If the HomePod is playing audio and we bring the watch closer than four meters, the Series 9 will launch “Now Playing” to control the audio, and if there is no content playing on the HomePod, playback suggestions will appear on the side. superior of Intelligent Group.

Conclusions

The Apple Watch Series 9 offers substantial improvements for new users and those looking to upgrade from older models, especially the Watch Series 7 and below.

With the introduction of the double-tap gesture, Apple is redefining the interaction with its watch. This gesture offers a fast, intuitive and convenient way to control the device with one hand, improving usability and giving users a more personalized experience.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is a very attractive option thanks to its hardware and software improvements, but the double-tap gesture adds a distinct element that sets it apart from its predecessors. This update sets the standard for future improvements to the user interface and interactivity of portable devices.
