Google is working on a new feature that will automatically detect whether apps are exhibiting suspicious behavior or not. The company wants to protect Android users from phishing attacks.

Phishing is a common way for hackers to obtain users’ confidential information. Google wants to offer its Android users additional protection against these cyberattacks and is therefore working on new integrated phishing protection. It is not yet entirely clear how exactly the system will work and whether it can effectively provide the necessary security.

What is Phishing?

Phishing is a type of cyber attack that hackers use to obtain users’ sensitive information. The technique often takes the form of disguised emails in which hackers ask for your login details or credit card information. Although some phishing messages can be quickly identified due to lack of credibility, such as strange characters in the email address or hyperlink, hackers are developing new techniques that require continuous improvement in security technology.

Integrated phishing protection

Google is working on new built-in phishing protection, but details about this technology have not yet been announced. A couple Sherlock’s has discovered the first signs of this security tool in the new version of Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2. Once enabled, this feature could detect app activity by scanning apps for deceptive behavior. The scanning process takes place directly on your device. If misleading behavior is detected, this information will be forwarded to the Google Play Protect to confirm the threat and alert app users.

Malware is growing rapidly and constantly requires new security tools. Google also recently announced a new tool to protect Chrome users from malicious websites. It remains to be seen whether this new security development will overtake malware.
