Kyivstar president Oleksandr Komarov said that Russian hackers were able to bypass the operator’s cyber protection through the compromised account of one of its employees.

Komarov said this on the broadcast of the Yedyni Novyni telethon, correspondent of Ukrinform reports.

“It must be admitted that this attack violated our defenses. This occurred due to the compromise of the account of one of the employees. The enemy managed to penetrate the company’s infrastructure. The investigation is ongoing,” said the company’s president.

At the same time, he noted that in any organization there can be people who “conditionally guide Russian missiles or give their passwords because social engineering works well.”

He assured that the company uses the most modern technologies to protect against cyber threats. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Kyivstar has repelled nearly 500 cyber attacks, according to the administrator.

As Ukrinform reported, on the morning of December 12, Kyivstar’s communication network was subjected to a powerful hacker attack, which caused a technical malfunction, as a result of which communication services and access to the Internet became temporarily unavailable.

One of the Russian fake hacker groups claimed responsibility for the attack.

As of 18:00 on December 13, specialists of the Kyivstar telecom operator began to activate voice communications throughout Ukraine.
