Fashion is cyclical and unfortunately for many it seems that powerful compact mobile phones are out of fashion. There are exceptions such as the Asus Zenfone 10 and we can consider the Galaxy S23 and Pixel 7a as ‘compact’, but as we say now, the excitement of these models has worn off.
But recent rumors point to a new ‘mini’ device from Samsung, a handset that will compete with the smaller iPhone Pro. Galaxy S Mini Ultra, but in the FE family. This is a bit of a weird rumor, so we’ll go in pieces because there’s a lot of fabric to cut.
Rumored to be a small Galaxy S Ultra
As we said, Mini models are no longer a reality on the market. There are exceptions, but even Apple, which has invested heavily in them for two generations (the very interesting iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini), has finally admitted the truth: the user wants large screens.
There are several compromises that must be made in a compact mobile device. and these cuts are not compatible with the existing premium product range. The battery is smaller, the displays are smaller (of course), the delivery systems are less effective because they have a smaller surface area to cool the phone, and even the cameras are short on space.
For example, in a very compact mobile phone, it would be very difficult to see the periscopic system currently found in many mobile phones for medium and long telephotos. Simply, no room for lenses and system.
Coming back to Samsung, we have both extremes in their most premium rangeWe can say that the Galaxy S23 is a compact smartphone with a 6.1 inch screen and a height of 146.3 millimeters. Of course, it is a compact device by today’s 6.5-inch and 6.8-inch standards.
At the top end is the 6.8-inch Galaxy S23 Ultra, and yes, the S23 is a high-end model, but it doesn’t have the same screen and, above all, the same camera system as the Galaxy S23 Ultra. According to a rumor from a South Korean blog, which is the source of many rumors and which we can read thanks to Sammobile, here it is Where Samsung tries to enter the premium segment with a compact phone.
This possible Galaxy S Mini Ultra will compete with an iPhone Pro it also has a 6.1-inch diagonal but has a system and screen worthy of its price and range. This all sounds great because you’re already dreaming of a traditional Galaxy S-sized handset with the specs of the Galaxy S Ultra, but let’s put our feet down for a moment.
One of the features of Galaxy S Ultra is the quad rear camera systemOne of them is a long telephoto lens with a periscopic system. This means there are four sensors, a periscopic system and elements that take up space and are complex to miniaturize. So such a system might be complicated on a truly compact mobile device, but hey, there’s always room and it can be done if some elements are sacrificed.
But what we read in the rumors is that It is a model that can be included in the FE family. There is another complication because yes, the Galaxy S FE are good phones, but they are not associated with the top-end range, but with a phone that is a step below and wants to compete with the iPhone Pro with a model from the FE family. It doesn’t look very realistic.
It is also stated that no decision has been made yet and everything will be part of Samsung’s early approach. In every way, We deemed it appropriate to convey this rumor and explain what the disadvantages of the Galaxy S Ultra Mini might be.. Additionally, keeping the S-Pen as part of the product means more internal space that can’t be devoted to hardware.
It may or may not arrive, but there is currently no solid information to support that Samsung is working on a compact, premium handset.
