The court ruled in this regard at the request of a group of lawyers who filed a legal appeal to guarantee democracy, despite attempts by the prosecutor’s office (prosecutor’s office) reverse the triumph of elected President Bernardo Arevalo de Leon.

In a statement, the Court detailed that it upheld its decision “in accordance with its ultimate purpose maintain the rule of law.”

He also indicated that his opinion is “timely” for “Defend the constitutional order” in the country.

The request to the Court was submitted by a group of private lawyers, and there was no final decision on this issue, officially announced this Thursday.

However, the Constitutional Court states in its ruling that the ruling is “without prejudice” to any investigation that the prosecutor’s office wants to carry out or to the “power of the High Electoral Court regarding serious evidence” on election-related issues.

This ruling will put an end to attempts to overturn Arevalo’s victory.

The decision by Guatemala’s highest court is expected to end the Justice Department’s efforts to overturn Arevalo de Leon’s election victory.

The Constitutional Court also asked Congress “guarantee” inauguration scheduled for January 14and that it was in jeopardy after the Justice Department on December 8 sought to annul the election due to alleged administrative violations by the electoral court.

The magistrates of the Constitutional Court also called on current President Alejandro Giammattei to “promote national unity”.

This Thursday, four judges voted in favor of the published opinion and one against it.

Since July, prosecutors have been trying to overturn Arevalo’s victory.
