Soon, in about a month, It will be a year (January 18) since the Stadia closed, Google’s cloud gaming service, which, due to a number of circumstances, did not achieve the desired success of the company, and which, according to its usual principles, turned black, joining its concrete and populated graveyard. As its user, I already said it at the time, the technical level of the platform was very good, but the catalog, its pricing policy and communication, which could be improved, condemned it to ostracism.
Google’s behavior towards Stadia users has been, yes, impeccable. From the very announcement of its closure, at the end of September, they confirmed to users that they would receive refunds for purchases, and in early November these refunds began to occur. In my case, as I said before, I bought a bundle consisting of Cyberpunk 2077 with a Stadia controller and Chromecast Ultra, as well as the Stadia Terraria edition, and I received a full refund for both purchases without having to return the device (controller and Chromecast), which was also announced by Google.
However, the Stadia controller had limitations, and that’s it Its wireless mode could only be used when we played on the Google platform, if we wanted to use it in any other environment, all we had to do was to do it with the controller connected by cable. However, Google has promised a tool that will enable a standard Bluetooth connection on the hand, freeing it up for wireless use with any compatible device. And with just a few days left until the service shut down, they finally made the said tool public.
Originally, a deadline of almost a year was set for this conversion to take place, until December 31, 2023. After that time, the tool would no longer be available, and of course any controls that had not been released could no longer be used wirelessly. However, and in a “quiet” way Google has extended the deadline for the release of Stadia controllers until December 31, 2024, that isa year longer than originally planned.
Since the company has not publicly announced this matter, and therefore the only source of this information is what is stated on the tool’s website, which you can see in the image above and which you can access from this link, we do not know the specific reasons that led Google to extend this deadline. No However, it makes sense to think that this is probably why There are still many Stadia controllers that haven’t been released, and the search engine prefers to give more space to users who haven’t yet for whatever reason. Something that undoubtedly contributes to what I mentioned earlier, which is how well Google wanted and continues to want to do things in this situation. Something that I think deserves recognition.
