The use of text documents to hack computers has become more frequent on the Internet. This was reported by BleepingComputer.

Journalists cite a report by research firm HP Wolf Security, which found that hackers are starting to attack users with text documents more often. As a rule, the victim receives an e-mail informing him that he has the right to payment – a pdf document is attached to the letter. After opening, a virus may be running on your computer.

When trying to open a pdf file, Adobe Reader prompts the user to use the Word text editor to run the docx file inside. At the same time, hackers learned to deceive the security system – when opened, information appears that the document has been verified and is not dangerous.

According to analysts, the malicious nature of such files can be detected using parsers. However, casual users “don’t go that far.” Experts state that hackers rely on the CVE-2017-11882 vulnerability, which was fixed in November 2017 but still resides on users’ computers.
