Volkswagen Group has become the latest automaker to announce that it will adopt Tesla’s standard, called the North American Charging Standard (NACS).
This was reported by Tech Crunch, according to Ukrinform.
Future cars from brands including Audi, Porsche and Scout Motors will have a built-in NACS charging port from 2025, the German giant said on Tuesday.
Additionally, the Volkswagen Group’s own network of charging stations – Electrify America, recently announced plans to adopt the NACS standard.
Volkswagen Group has become one of the last major automakers to switch to what is now the de facto standard for electric cars in the United States.
Tesla opened access to this standard last year.
Ford switched to NACS standards in May 2023 and announced that electric vehicle owners will soon be able to access Tesla chargers, initially via an adapter. Ford added that its new generation electric vehicles will be integrated into Tesla’s charging port called the North American Charging Standard (NACS) starting from 2025. Since then, major automakers such as GM, Rivian, Honda, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and most recently Subaru have also announced that they are using Tesla’s charging standard.
According to Ukrinform’s news, Tesla company has developed a new technology that will reduce the charging time of electric cars to 15 minutes.
