According to Ukrinform, this is evidenced by the results of a survey of teachers and schoolchildren about the experience and use of artificial intelligence in the educational process, published by the Ministry of Education and Science.
“Almost all teachers surveyed have heard of AI services. At the same time, 7 in 10 have used at least one of them in the last six months. In total, 76% of teachers surveyed have used AI services at least once, meaning half of the teachers “They had a positive interaction experience. One in every two teachers believes that artificial intelligence will change the education process in the coming years.”
Educators interviewed stated that they use artificial intelligence services to prepare for lessons, create homework tests, test students’ knowledge during lessons, and even for extracurricular studies.
Teachers of both exact disciplines (informatics, physics, mathematics) and humanities (English language, foreign literature, history and Ukrainian language) actively use artificial intelligence tools in lessons.
According to the survey, 37 percent of teachers have involved their students in the use of AI in one way or another, and 49 percent plan to do so in the future. On the other hand, in the section of the survey regarding the willingness to recommend the technology to others, 39% of the participants do not plan to directly recommend students to use artificial intelligence in education.
The most popular artificial intelligence (AI) service that both audiences are familiar with is ChatGPT. At the same time, students stated that they were more familiar with this service than teachers.
The second most popular among survey respondents is the artificial intelligence tool in the “Na Urok” project – 49% of teachers and 35% of students surveyed are aware of this service. Both teachers and schoolchildren are much less familiar with such well-known international AI services: Grammarly, Bard Google, Midjourney, Notion AI and Stable Diffusion, MES notes.
It is stated that school children exhibit a higher level of awareness than teachers about artificial intelligence and its use in the education process. 91% of schoolchildren surveyed are familiar with AI services and 85% have used them at least once, with a third doing so at least every week. At the same time, 6 out of 10 students already use artificial intelligence services to prepare homework. Additionally, nearly 40% say they use AI in their course work (especially to do independent work).
According to the Ministry of Education and Culture, in separate surveys, children anonymously admitted that they used AI tools to write, mostly to prepare tasks related to humanitarian disciplines. However, compared to others, this purpose of using artificial intelligence ranks last in terms of popularity among students. Some children explained that AI helped generate text titles or ideas that they would later use in their own creative work. Additionally, AI helps in taking notes and clarifying data missed in class, and according to children, this saves them a significant amount of time. In addition to learning, students are interested in systematizing knowledge, personal development, searching for ideas, etc. They use artificial intelligence to.
The research was carried out by the Projector Creative & Tech Institute and the Ukrainian Junior Academy of Sciences, with the support of the research company Factum Group Ukraine and information support from the Ministry of Education and Culture.
The survey was conducted online and lasted from September to October 2023. More than 3,000 Ukrainians participated in the competition: 1,747 teachers and 1,443 grades 8-11. grade student. Questionnaires were distributed through the mailing list of the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and partner educational organizations, as well as on the pages of the research organizers and the Ministry of Education and Culture on social networks.
