Head of the Islamist group’s political office HamasIsmael Haniyeh discussed this Wednesday in Cairo with the head of Egyptian intelligence, General Abbas Kamel, several proposals to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza Stripincluding the release of 40 Israeli civilians in exchange for a temporary truce, various sources said.
The discussion between them included various proposals to solve the problem of stopping Israeli attacks on the Palestinian enclave, among which stands out temporary ceasefire for up to a week in exchange for Hamas releasing 40 Israeli prisoners, including women, children and non-military men, they said EFE Palestinian sources in Cairo on condition of anonymity.
“This truce can be extended if an understanding is reached on new categories and standards of exchange,” the source added, clarifying that we are talking about “ideas that were discussed by the US administration”.
According to the same informant, after putting the proposals and conditions of Hamas and Israel on the table, the head of the Islamist group’s political office clarified that will present these options to Yahya Sinwar, Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip.and Saleh Al Arouri, the formation’s vice-president, “because they are the ones making the decisions about this truce,” not him.
On the other hand, an informed security source, who also wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the matter, said EFE that the development of the meeting was “positive” and “serious steps were taken to reach an agreement to end Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip” and prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas with the proposals considered.
In this sense, he stated that the Hamas delegation showed “flexibility” in relation to Egyptian proposal for a new truce and an exchange of prisoners on terms “very similar” to the previous ceasefire, which was extended three times in a row.

Consequently, the assembled parties were ready to “bring together points of view on the terms of the truce in order to be completed as soon as possible“.
On the other hand, a Palestinian source stated that the delegation led by the Secretary General of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Ziad al-Nahala, will arrive in Cairo early next week at the invitation of Egypt “as part of discussions aimed at ending war and aggression, seeking a ceasefire and achieving a comprehensive exchange agreement with Israel.”

Haniyeh is expected to take part in a trilateral meeting involving Al-Nahala and Abas Kamel next Saturday.
