An investment round brought Anthropic 750 million in fresh capital. With these additional resources, it wants to increase competition with OpenAI.
Anthropic went around with the collection box and to investors and is said to have raised $750 million. This is what The Information and Bloomberg write, among others. The main sponsor is Menlo Ventures Management LP, an American investment company.
With this round of investment, Anthropic underlines its status as a rising star in the technology industry. The company’s market capitalization value has already increased fivefold this calendar year. An investment from Google brought the total value to three billion dollars in March, which will rise to fifteen to eighteen billion after this new round of investments.
Head to head with OpenAI
Anthropic was founded in 2021 and is considered a major, if not largest, challenger to OpenAI in the generative AI space. With Claude there is a model that can put ChatGPT to the test. It’s not for nothing that AWS and Google are explicitly pulling Anthropic’s sleeves. Both cloud giants have already pumped billions of dollars into Anthropic to become the company’s preferred cloud partner. But Zoom, Salesforce and even Microsoft also provided the company with fresh capital.
Anthropic can also put all the extra money to good use. The latest version of the Claude model was announced in November, but the AI company dreams of more. It wants to trump OpenAI in the race for general artificial intelligence: AI that can compete with the human brain in everything. To develop such a model, the company will need many billions more.
