Introducing a blockchain identification system that balances privacy and security

China has embarked on a pioneering journey into the digital world by introducing the blockchain-based real name verification system, an innovative move aimed at improving online security and user privacy. Real Name Decentralized Identifier (RealDID), a government-backed blockchain-based service network (BSN) and the First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security.

Rollout will be slow, with a goal of 5 million identities in the first year

RealDID’s goal is ambitious: to reach all 1.4 billion Chinese citizens. However, the rollout will be gradual, with a target of 5 million IDs in the first year. This initiative represents a significant change in how personal data is managed and protected online.

What sets RealDID apart from others is its use of blockchain technology. This technology provides a secure and transparent method for managing public keys, which are critical to protecting user privacy. The system only works in China, a testament to the country’s commitment to self-sufficiency in technological advancement.

This initiative is not just about improving online security; It is a statement about China’s place in the digital age. RealDID’s development comes amid increased scrutiny and disengagement from international blockchain projects, underscoring China’s desire to carve its own path in the digital space.

The system works by allowing users to generate multiple public and private key pairs tied to their real identities, but allowing anonymous online interactions. This means users can interact online without revealing personal information such as phone numbers; This is an important step forward in protecting personal privacy. However, the government protects users’ access to their personal information as a necessary precaution for legal and security reasons. This balance between privacy and security is a delicate but important aspect of the RealDID system.
