Italy’s communications regulator said on Friday it had fined Facebook parent company Meta 5.85 million euros ($6.4 million) for running gambling ads. Italy banned gambling advertising from 2018; The ban covers all media, including social media.

The Agcom body said the sentence was imposed on: Meta Platforms Ireland Limited.

The investigation stated that “promotional material or other advertisements, including indirect, for betting or games related to withdrawals were detected in 18 profiles/accounts (five on Instagram and 13 on Facebook) and 32 sponsored content.”

Agcom recently penalized YouTube and Twitch for similar violations. METU has been fined many times in Europe, primarily for violating data protection laws.
