For years, iPhone users have enjoyed the battery status screen, a useful feature missing from Android. This simple tool shows the battery’s maximum capacity compared to its new state, providing a clear picture of its degradation status. However, this may change as evidence suggests that Android 15 may bring the much-desired feature.
Telegram Android Authority and Google News editor Nail Sadikov came across a hidden “battery health” screen in the recently released Android 14 QPR2 beta 2 update. While it’s not currently active, code analysis revealed that the display will show “approximate percentage of charge.” it’s now holding the battery better than when it was new.” Simply put, it’s the same battery percentage spec as the iPhone.
While the feature’s availability remains a secret, Android Authority suggests that the feature could arrive in Android 15, possibly as a Pixel exclusive at first. But there’s always the possibility of rejection, although Google’s recent efforts suggest otherwise.
The latest Pixel Feature Release has already introduced a “battery info” screen that shows battery cycle count and manufacturing date. Additionally, Android 14 introduced battery APIs to third-party developers, allowing apps to evaluate battery health. These steps seem to pave the way for a native battery status display.
The benefits of such a feature are undeniable, especially for those who keep their phones for longer periods of time. Google also announced seven years of updates to the Pixel 8 series, so the battery monitoring feature will come in handy for new Pixel owners.
