Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said he plans to open a National Institute in January to study ways to ensure safety in the use of productive artificial intelligence technologies and increase the societal benefits of artificial intelligence.

This was reported by NHK, as reported by Ukrinform.

Kishida noted that Great Britain and the United States have already established Institutes to conduct research amid growing concerns about the safety of productive artificial intelligence.

The Prime Minister also stated that Japan should establish a similar Institute to study methods for assessing the security of artificial intelligence technologies and developing standards.

The meeting of the government’s Japan Artificial Intelligence Strategy Commission also approved the final draft of a set of government guidelines for all businesses developing or using AI technologies.

As reported by Ukrinform, Hiroshi Mikitani, CEO of Japanese tech giant Rakuten, announced the company’s plans to launch its own large language (LLM) AI model.
