Company Hyperloop OneThe ship, which promised to transport passengers and cargo from city to city in sealed capsules in vacuum tubes at speeds of up to 1,200 kilometers per hour, has officially ceased to exist. The concept of a new type of transport – hyperloop – It was suggested by Elon Musk in 2013. He stated from the beginning that he didn’t have time to practice this, so anyone could use the sketching project.
The rapidly organized startup Hyperloop One was also among those interested. But he significantly changed the project, abandoning the airbag that was the key to Musk’s system and trying to replace it with magnetic levitation, which requires expensive, powerful magnets. The company conducted the first and only test with passengers using the XP-1 capsule in 2020. The test did not quite meet expectations: The capsule reached a speed of only 172 kilometers per hour.
The pandemic has also made the situation worse. As a result, Hyperloop One decided to abandon the idea of transporting people and focus on cargo transportation. “Full-scale” tests were promised in 2022 but did not happen.
According to the information agency BloombergThe highly anticipated company has already closed its Los Angeles office and laid off most of its workforce of at least 200 people in early 2022. The remaining staff is selling the company’s assets, including a testing site outside Las Vegas.
Currently, for 10 years after the appearance of the sketch project, no one has tried to implement Musk’s project in its original form. The main reason for this is that, like any other project, it is quite difficult to implement and most entrepreneurs, in principle, avoid taking on such technically complex projects.
