Will we soon see battery status on Android smartphones?

Android users may get a new built-in feature to find out their smartphone’s battery status. iPhone users have long enjoyed this feature, while Android users have to make do with a third-party app.

The battery is a crucial part of our smartphone and that is why we want to know its status. iPhone users already have a function to find out the battery status of their smartphone, but this is not yet possible for Android smartphones. Still, there are signs that this feature will be coming to Android users soon.

Built-in battery status for Android

Google could soon tell you what the status of your Android smartphone battery is and when it is defective. This has long been a basic function on an iPhone, but on an Android smartphone you still needed a third-party app to check this battery status.

In the latest Pixel feature drop, Google has already added new battery information such as production date and cycle count. However, Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 added an additional hidden battery status page. This would display information including the estimated percentage that the battery can currently charge compared to when the battery was new. There are also references to symbols that indicate “reduced battery capacity” or “battery detection”.

An outdated battery is often the reason for a new device. Therefore, it is interesting to know the status so that you can keep your battery in top shape.
