Major sea freight transport companies are preparing to resume their operations through Red Sea Path and the Gulf of Aden en route to and from the Suez Canal following the launch of a multinational initiative led by USA for solutions security problems in the area caused by insurgents Houthis.

Danish giant MaerskThe world’s second largest company in the sector, which suspended the movement of its container ships along the Red Sea route on December 15, indicated that following the confirmation of the multinational security initiative Operation Guardian of Prosperity (OPG) allowing maritime trade transit into the region, it is preparing to order its ships again use this route to and from the Suez Canal.

Thanks to the OPG initiative, we are preparing to allow ships to resume transit through the Red Sea in both east and west directions.

However, the company cautions that its teams are still assessing the immediate impact of the resolution and stresses that while security measures have been put in place to allow transit through the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden, the overall risk in the area has not been eliminated at this stage and Maersk will not hesitate to assess the situation and re-initiate sabotage plans if deemed necessary.
