Windows 11 updates

Microsoft released Windows 11 version 23H2 in the fall, and a smaller Moment 5 update is now scheduled to follow in February 2024.

After Microsoft released Windows 11 23H2 a few months ago, a smaller Moment 5 update is said to be on the table. Microsoft would test new features of Windows 11 with insiders on various channels. These features will be part of the small Moment 5 update, which is rumored to arrive in February 2024.

Expected Windows 11 updates

Windows 11 23H2 was one of the biggest Windows updates in years, which is also currently undergoing several updates. Now it appears that Windows is testing new Windows 11 features for a minor Moment 5 update. These are some changes that are already on the table:

  • Ink is available wherever you can type: Digital pen users can write directly in any field that accepts text input.
  • Changes to inbox apps and Windows Search (EU only): EU users can uninstall additional inbox apps, including Microsoft Edge. Windows Search also supports search engines other than Bing.
  • Widget changes: Windows 11 users can disable the Microsoft Home feed in the Widgets panel and add other news providers.
  • Changes to Windows Spotlight: Windows Spotlight, which features a different wallpaper from Bing every day, will become the new default wallpaper option for users who previously used one of the default Windows wallpapers.
  • Share files with other nearby PCs: The Windows feature that allows users to share documents, photos and more with nearby PCs over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi allows users to choose a custom name for their PC.
  • Copilot improvements: Microsoft AI Assistant can now put you in disconnected mode and the app window will also appear when you press Alt + Tab.
  • Improvements in Windows 365: Windows 365 Boot allows users to sign in to their Windows 365 Cloud PC from the Windows 11 sign-in screen using Windows Hello for Business. Windows 365 Switch will also offer the ability to disconnect from a cloud PC via this interface.
  • Voice access and narrator improvements: Voice Access gains support for multiple monitors and the ability to create custom voice commands. Narrator also allows users to communicate with the operating system via voice access.
  • notepad: In the text editor you can now read the number of characters for the selected text. Additionally, there will also be a new “Edit with Notepad” option in the Explorer context menu.

Windows insiders may already be able to test the new features. Microsoft still has some time until February 2024 to make changes and add additional features to this list.
