The company made some statements on the contest page. Specifically, “Are participants from Ukraine, Russia or Belarus allowed to participate in GSoC 2022?” the following is indicated:

Due to the current circumstances, GSoC 2022 does not accept participants (sponsors, consultants or directors of organisations) from Russia, Belarus or the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” (“DPR”) and “Luhansk People’s Republic” (“LPR”). ). There are no restrictions for participants located on the territory of Ukraine, but other than “DPR” and “LPR”,
– it is said in the instruction.

Thus, anyone from Ukraine living in the controlled area can participate in the competition.

Google Summer of Code: what is it

  • Google has been choosing open source projects in the GSoC since 2005.
  • Only students can participate.
  • The competition itself runs from February (when participants start sending their applications) until the end of November (when participants can submit their final work product). However, the code is written directly only in the summer – hence the name. All other time is devoted to the preparation and verification of results.
  • Winners receive a cash grant.
  • More than 18,000 participants from 746 organizations participated in the competition.
