“With our 2023 award, we recognize Porras and all the corrupt bureaucrats like him who enable new autocracies to exist,” the network noted.

Since 2012, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) has created the Person of the Year Award, which recognizes those most responsible for wreaking havoc on the world through organized crime and corruption.

In 2023, Porras becomes the first woman to receive the award since OCCRP began the competition.

The purpose of this OCCRP award is to promote accountability and highlight those believed to have contributed most to fueling corruption and political rancor.

Among the individuals awarded this appointment, the President of Venezuela stands out. Nicolas Maduro; former President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte; and former President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro.
