The Xiaomi SU7 is the first electric car from the Chinese firm, and contrary to its image as a budget-focused device maker, this development aims to directly compete at a high scale. Much of the launch event devoted itself to comparing it with the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. The comparison is not idle, and some of its capabilities sound really impressive.
Xiaomi SU7 (short for Ultra Speed), will be launched in two variants. A single-engine, rear-wheel drive model that promises a range of 668 kilometers and a top speed of 210 km/h. The second variant named ‘Max’ will have the configuration twin engine and all wheel drive (AWD).
For the highest version, Xiaomi promotes a truly impressive autonomy of up to 800 kilometers (497 mi)which would leave behind other reference cars in the electric segment such as the Mercedes EQS (447 miles), the Tesla Model S (444 miles) or the Porsche Taycan Turbo (327 miles).
Xiaomi SU7 Max can reach maximum speed 265 km/h and pass from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.78 seconds, both brands better than Porsche and Tesla. Another spectacular fact is that its 800 V HyperCharge system can recharge the battery 220 kilometers just plugging in for five minuteswhile 15 minutes of charging will ensure a range of an incredible 500 kilometers.
In terms of aesthetics, we see “inspiration” in the sporty lines of the Porsche Taycan as well as the Aston Martin DB9. Outside and inside, with seats inspired by sports cars, in a deep red color and an aggressive design. Xiaomi does not forget about other more practical aspects, and the SU7 has a 517 liter trunk.
As for the infotainment software, it will run the same Hyper OS that powers its phones and tablets and offer native access to Xiaomi apps. There will also be compatibility with Apple’s AirPlay and CarPlay services.
The price remains a secret, but Xiaomi boss Lei Jun he says that “exceeds expectations” [de los clientes]. The company harbors global ambitions for its EV efforts, and the Xiaomi SU7 has already entered production (still being tested) and “it will hit the national market (China) in a few months”. It will be sold in colored, blue, gray or green versions. It is not clear when it will reach the western markets, but it will be another entertainer for the electric segment.
