Despite American and European headwinds, Huawei reports its highest sales in three years, but is still below 2020 levels.

Huawei ends the year on a positive note. The company predicts an increase in revenue from sales of its smartphones. Sales of 90 billion euros were achieved in 2023, an increase of 9 percent compared to 2022.

Increase in sales

The 9 percent increase in sales is rather remarkable considering that Huawei has been having difficulties with the US and Western countries for several years. Although we are talking about an increase in sales, this value is still significantly below the sales in 2020, which amounted to 891 billion euros.

Headwind

Huawei has had turbulent years with Western countries. A few years ago the brand seemed to have a prominent position in Western countries, but after allegations of espionage and collaboration with the Chinese government, the brand disappeared from Western shelves. For this reason, the US imposed a trade ban on Huawei in 2019, which most EU countries followed. Huawei was also excluded from 5G infrastructure, the company’s main source of revenue.

The tech giant recently filed a complaint with the European Ombudsman related to negative comments about the Chinese company. In any case, Huawei doesn’t seem to have thrown in the towel yet and continues to fight for its place in the Western market. Despite radio silence, the company has not been idle in its own region and recently launched the Mate 60 series.

Huawei is already looking positively into the future and expects to sell twice as many smartphones in 2024. However, the return to Europe will not happen so quickly.
