Maine This Thursday was second state to expel former President Donald Trump Republican Party internal elections to select a candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

In a document published by several US media outlets, Maine Secretary of State Shanna Bellows announced the decision, stating that:

Trump cannot run because of his involvement in the insurrection.

He added:

“I did not come to this conclusion easily. Democracy is sacred. I know that no Secretary of State has ever denied a presidential candidate access to the polls under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment.

“However, I also know that no presidential candidate has ever participated in an insurrection before,” he said.

Bellows’ decision comes a week after the Colorado Supreme Court, in a historic move, ruled in favor of throwing the Republican out of his party’s primary.

GOP asks court to overturn ruling disqualifying Trump from election

The Colorado Republican Party decided on Wednesday to appeal to the US Supreme Court the decision to disqualify Trump from elections in that state.

The appeal means that the stay of the state court decision, which expires on January 4, will be extended indefinitely until the US Supreme Court announces whether it will hear the appeal and, if so, until he will not make a final decision on the problem.

On January 6, 2021, thousands of President Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol as lawmakers were in the process of certifying the election results that gave Joe Biden victory. (EFE and Europa Press)
