In a statement published on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the diplomat emphasized “high value” of various extraditions to the US in recent years, such as those of Ovidio “El Raton” Guzmán, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, and Ismael “Fierro” Quintero, “so the extradition treaty plays a critical role in further securing these results,” he said. .

He confirmed that bilateral cooperation helps those who put people at risk to face the law.”with fentanyl poison, arms trade or the painful path of illegal migration.”

In addition, he emphasized that this year US deports fugitives to Mexico wanted by authorities for crimes such as murder, femicide, kidnapping and organized crime.

“The high number of extraditions to the United States and deportations of fugitives to Mexico is a consequence a clear reminder that they will be held accountable “who shamelessly profit from the safety, health and well-being of our countries.”

An extradition agreement between both countries was signed in 1978, although the first extraditions began in 1995.
