Engineers of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have developed and are testing the newest machine guns for 14.5×114 mm and 12.7×99 mm calibers. The development of new models is carried out by a private organization that has long been developing small arms for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The new machine gun, chambered for 14.5×114 mm cartridge, is designed to attack lightly armored targets such as armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, fire equipment and enemy manpower located behind light shelters.
The new technology will replace the KPV machine gun (KPVT) and have the best characteristics. After the new Ukrainian gun is tested and approved by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it will be replaced by the old KPVT as part of the main armament of Soviet-made APCs and BRDM. It is also planned to be used as an infantry machine gun with the possibility of mounting on a machine tool.
The second technology tested, a machine gun chambered for the 12.7×99 mm cartridge, is similar in characteristics to the American Browning M2. The machine gun should replace the obsolete NSZ once it is approved for use in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is planned to be used as an infantryman, bipod, easel and also as a tank, to be mounted on T-64 tanks.
In conditions of intense consumption of large-caliber machine gun resources, new Ukrainian developments are in great demand and expected in the army. Source
