The Indian Space Agency (ISRO) has successfully launched a rocket carrying an observatory satellite that will study astronomical objects such as black holes.

BBC reported this, Ukrinform reported.

ISRO launched the mission at 05:40 Kiev time on January 1 from Sriharikota spaceport in the south of the country.

This is the second mission of this nature in the world after NASA launched a similar one in 2021.

The space agency said that they wanted to help scientists improve their “knowledge about black holes” through this mission.

“Exciting times ahead,” said S. Somanath, head of the Indian Space Research Organization, after the satellite’s launch.

It was noted that the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) will aim to carry out in-depth studies on black holes in space.

The XPoSat satellite, which costs approximately 30 million US dollars, has a lifespan of 5 years.

This launch comes after an extremely successful year for ISRO.

In August, the lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 touched down near the moon’s south pole, where no one had reached before. A few days later, the agency launched its first solar observation mission, Aditya-L1.

As Ukrinform reported, India’s space agency conducted its first test flight ahead of its planned mission to send astronauts into space in 2025.
