Colombian President Gustavo Petroconfirmed that there is at least four Colombians among 31 abducted migrants when they were on a bus in Tamaulipas.
“This multiple kidnapping in Mexico involves four Colombians. The Colombian Embassy in Mexico is coordinating a safe and secure rescue operation with the Mexican State,” the President said in X.
The abduction of migrants, mostly Venezuelans, was confirmed Tuesday by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“It is known that this is a truck with 30 or 31 migrants who were unloaded, five were left, the rest of the migrants were taken away, but the search is underway from the first minutes,” explained López Obrador from Tabasco.
He said the federal government’s Secretariat of Public and Civil Security is investigating the case.
He repeated that It is still unknown which group carried out the abduction and for what reason.
The abducted migrants are mostly Venezuelans who were traveling from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, to attend a reception for humanitarian asylum in the United States.
A representative of the Security Service confirmed the illegal imprisonment of 31 women and men migrants of various nationalities.
The people, whose whereabouts are unknown, were traveling on a Grupo Senda bus.
According to official information, armed men in five trucks stopped a vehicle at 19:26 on December 30 on the Reynosa-Matamoros section.
The driver reported the incident, so members of the National Guard, state police and representatives of the Secretariat of National Defense responded to the scene to escort the truck to Matamoros headquarters. (According to information from White Elephant)
