At least 73 people died This Wednesday, more than 170 people were injured in two explosions at a cemetery in the Iranian city of Kerman, where fourth anniversary of the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

The attacks were considered terrorist attack by Iranian authorities, the official agency reported Irna.

Iranian state television reported a first and then a second explosion during a commemorative event at the cemetery where Soleimani is buried. considered a martyr of the revolution in Iran and who died in 2020 as a result of an American drone attack on Baghdad airport.

Babak Ektaparast, a spokesman for Iranian emergency services, later confirmed that 73 people were killed and 170 were injured.

The semi-official newspaper Nournews previously reported that “several gas cylinders exploded on the road leading to the cemetery.”

State television showed Red Crescent Rescuers treating the wounded at a ceremony attended by hundreds of Iranians to mark the anniversary of Soleimani’s death.

“Our rapid response teams are evacuating the wounded (…) But crowd waves are blocking roads,” Reza Fallah, head of the Red Crescent in Kerman province, told state television.
