While most of Apple’s product lineup has been updated in the last few years, there are also a few devices and accessories that are quite old. Below, we highlight seven of the oldest and most obscure products Apple continues to sell in 2024. Many of these products are unlikely to ever be updated again, and it’s unclear how long Apple will continue to sell them on its online store.
Introduced with the original MacBook Air in 2008, the USB SuperDrive is an external CD/DVD drive. It remains available for $79 on Apple’s online store, but you’ll need a USB-A to USB-C adapter to use it with a modern MacBook. The last MacBook with a built-in CD/DVD drive was discontinued in 2016.
For only $9.99. You can buy a small MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter from Apple in the US. This adapter allows you to charge a very old MacBook Pro or MacBook Air equipped with a MagSafe 2 connector, as well as a very old Apple Thunderbolt display. For those keeping track, Apple switched to MagSafe 3 in 2021.
Apple removed the headphone jack from iPhones starting with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in 2016, but continues to sell wired EarPods with a 3.5mm headphone jack for $19. You can also buy EarPods with Lightning or USB-C. Hey, Macs still have a headphone jack.
Still using your old iPod or iPhone? Apple is here with a 30-pin USB cable featuring the revolutionary USB 2.0 technology of the early 2000s. Pro tip: If you really need it, you can get it much cheaper on Amazon.
Want to protect your 2013 Mac Pro until 2024? Apple’s $49 adapter lets you attach a compatible Kensington lock to your computer.
Apple hasn’t updated the stainless steel Link bracelet since the original Apple Watch launched in 2015. The band still sells for $449 in the original 38mm and 42mm sizes, and it no longer perfectly matches the colors of some new Apple Watch models.
For as little as $699, you can add wheels to your 2019 or newer Mac Pro Tower so it can move around. Or you can mount them on a skateboard.
