The GPT Store allows enterprise users to share their custom GPTs with others and earn money from them.
OpenAI informed developers via email that the “GPT Store” will open its doors next week. This is a type of app store in which individual GPT models developed by users can be offered for sale. Every model must adhere to the house rules, we read in the email published by The Verge.
The opening of the GPT store follows OpenAI’s announcement of customizable GPTs in November. Users with a Plus or Enterprise account can build their own GPT using GPT Builder, a chatbot that helps you build another chatbot. These custom GPTs can take all sorts of forms, from a writing coach to a chef creating recipes for you. Each personality has individual settings that ensure answers better fit specific questions.
These custom GPTs were originally intended for internal use only, but starting next week you will also be able to make them available for sale through the OpenAI Store. To list a GPT model for sale, all you need to do is publish it publicly. You can adjust this via your model’s settings. How much you can earn from your creations is not entirely clear, but it may depend on how often it is installed by other users.
The store was originally scheduled to open in November, but the opening was postponed. The problems in the boardroom might have something to do with it. Now that these appear to be finally over, OpenAI hopes to continue its rapid rise in 2024. The company had sales of more than $1 billion in 2023.
