Acer is introducing three new laptops equipped with Intel’s latest Core Ultra processors.
Acer is updating its laptop portfolio with Intel’s latest innards: the Core Ultra processors. Core Ultra succeeds Core i and is an evolution of last year’s chips. Acer is putting the chips into three new device types: the Acer Swift Go 16, the Acer Swift Go 14 and the Acer Swift X14.
Acer Swift Go 16 and 14
The Acer Swift Go 16 and 14 are similar devices with screen sizes of 16 inches and 14 inches, respectively. Acer provides the laptops with advertising on the keyboard in the form of the new Microsoft Copilot key, which gives you access to the Copilot functions. Of course, this requires a Microsoft account and a bank card, so we have doubts about the added value of such a button.
The two computers have a webcam with 1440p resolution, paired with some smart features. These include background blur and noise reduction. Three microphones should help with this. The laptops support the new WiFi 7 standard.
The two Swift Go devices are available with an OLED screen with full coverage of the DCI-P3 spectrum. The 16-inch notebook has a screen resolution of 3,200 x 2,000 pixels, while the 14-inch Swift Go has to make do with 1,880 x 1,800 pixels. Both devices have a refresh rate of 90 Hz.
The laptops can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. USB Type-C is present with Thunderbolt 4 and Acer also offers a USB Type-A port and HDMI 2.1. Finally, the laptops are equipped with a smart touchpad with which you can operate multimedia.
Acer Swift X14
The Acer Swift X 14 is a 14.5-inch device that is again equipped with Intel Core Ultra CPUs. These are H-series chips. The maximum you can configure this laptop with is an Nvidia RTX 4070. The OLED screen has a resolution of 2.8K and uses the full DCI-P3 spectrum. Acer is confident that you can take the notebook out of the box with a Delta E of less than two, which means professional-level color fastness.
The laptop also comes with an FHD webcam that includes the same smart features as the new Swift Go devices. USB Type-C, HDMI and WiFi 6E are available. Acer doesn’t mention WiFi 7 for this laptop. The RAM is configurable up to 32 GB and the storage up to 1 TB.
AI and blue light
We also note that Acer, like almost all of its competitors, does not shy away from contentless marketing. For example, the laptops are TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe, which primarily concerns blue light. However, there is no scientific evidence that blue light has negative effects on the eyes. On the contrary: the blue light from screens and lighting is based on daylight. Too much blue light before bed can keep you awake.
Acer also calls its new computers AI PCs. This is also an empty term that comes from Intel’s marketing department. The AI aspect concerns the NPU in the Core Ultra chips. This is an accelerator for AI workloads that can, for example, speed up some niche functions in Adobe Photoshop, but does not have a major impact on the daily work of the average office worker.
Price and availability
The Acer Swift Go 16 will be available in Europe from February with a recommended retail price of 1,149 euros for the entry-level model. The Swift Go 14 is currently on sale for 1,099 euros. You pay at least 1,799 euros for the Acer Swift X 14, also from February.
