Despite reports that Apple would require people to pick up their devices at an Apple Store where employees can follow the installation steps, Apple did not provide any shipping information in this morning’s press release.
Apple announced the launch date just in time for CES to kick off in Las Vegas, perhaps to steal some of the show’s attention. “The age of spatial computing has arrived,” CEO Tim Cook said today. “Apple Vision Pro is the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created.”
Apple officially introduced Vision Pro in June. Since then, the company has been preparing for its launch by training employees on how to demo the device while hiring more developers to develop apps for the device.
In today’s announcement, Apple said the headset will work with more than 1 million apps currently available for iOS and iPadOS. Vision Pro will also have its own app store, so users will be able to find applications specifically designed for the headset.
“Game Room, What is Golf? New spatial games including. “and Super Fruit Ninja uses the powerful capabilities of Apple Vision Pro to transform the space around players, delivering unique and immersive gameplay,” he added.
Apple also reiterated that the Vision Pro can scan your face to create a photorealistic avatar called a “Persona” that users will see during FaceTime calls.
