Lenovo renews Yoga Pro 9i with Core Ultra and its own AI chip

Lenovo refreshes the Yoga Pro 9i with the latest processors from Intel. It also has its own AI chip, although it’s not entirely clear why.

Lenovo is renewing the inner workings of its Yoga Pro 9i. The Yoga Pro 9i is a special case in Lenovo’s product range. After all, the Yoga series is fundamentally intended for consumers. An exception is the Pro 9i, where the Pro in the name actually means something. We clearly noticed this when reviewing the previous edition. Thanks to the MIL-STD-810H certification, the notebook is not only robust but also has professional specifications.

This new Yoga Pro 9i is equipped with an H-series Intel Core Ultra from Lenovo. You can choose between a Core Ultra 5, 7 or 9. Lenovo also offers up to 64GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage capacity. You can equip the device with a maximum of one Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU. These specs make the laptop half a workstation, just like its predecessor.

Accurate screen

The device has a 16-inch 16:10 screen with 3,200 x 2,000 pixels. Lenovo claims that the display has 100% coverage of both the sRGB and DCI-P3 spectrums, with exceptional color fidelity. The Delta-E (color deviation) would be less than one when delivered. This is surprising since anything under two is already very good and can serve graphics professionals. We’re excited to see the numbers on a future test model, but are reasonably confident given our testing of the screen in the previous version of this laptop.

Lenovo provides the laptop with access to this Lenovo Yoga Creator Zone. There you can generate images using AI. Lenovo does not tell us which LLM is behind this functionality at launch. Lenovo still touts the AI capabilities of the Core Ultra chips in the laptop, but as we’ve already described, these aren’t as spectacular as Intel itself would like to portray.

Despite the presence of an AI accelerator in the Intel Core Ultra processor, Lenovo also deploys its own AI core chip into the laptop. This will help you optimize performance and loading times. We wonder if the NPU for the Core Ultra couldn’t have done this job with some tweaking.

Other Yoga Pro laptops

Lenovo provides the Yoga Pro 9i with several siblings. There’s the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 with a 14-inch foldable screen, but no room for an additional GPU and room for just 16GB of RAM. The Yoga Pro 7i and Yoga Pro 7 are two devices with 14-inch screens, both with Core Ultra. The 7i can be equipped with 32 GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050, the regular Pro 7 only offers space for 16 GB of RAM and an older RTX 3050.

The Yoga Pro 9i will be available from April with a recommended retail price of 1,499 euros (including VAT) for the entry-level model. The 2-in-1 will be available in March at a starting price of 1,399. The Yoga Pro 7i will be on the shelves this month starting at 999 euros and the Yoga 7 Pro will cost 899 euros from February.
