The national railway operator, China State Railway Group, stated this, according to Xinhua, Ukrinform reported.
Last year, a total of 3 thousand 637 kilometers of new railway lines, 2 thousand 776 kilometers of which were high-speed railways, were put into operation.
At the same time, China’s fixed capital investment in the railway sector in 2023 amounted to 764.5 billion yuan (almost $107.7 billion); This increased by 7.5% compared to the previous year.
According to the operating company, the operational mileage of the Chinese railway network at the end of the year was 159,000 km.
Last year, the country completed the construction of 34 railway projects and put them into operation, started service at 102 railway stations, and made significant progress in the implementation of more than 100 railway projects under construction.
There has been a boom in high-speed rail construction in China in recent years, with the country now having the largest such network connecting provincial administrative centers and major cities.
Trains on such sections move at a speed of over 250 km/h.
