“I have ordered the Armed Forces to carry out military operations to neutralize these groups,” he said.
Noboa signed the decree at a time of great tension in the country due to car bombings in various cities, explosive attacks, police kidnappings and the detention of prison agents in prisons themselves.
Live television showed hooded men subduing staff and then gunshots and screams were heard until police arrived.
Police indicated on their social media that they had evacuated people from the area “in order to verify news with media workers and restore order.”
Meanwhile, institutions such as the University of Guayaquil and several commercial establishments in Quito have closed their doors due to fears of violence. (EFE)
